Kind Of Blue - Miles Davis

Ahhh Sunday mornings. They are like no other kind of morning. Definitely better than Mondays and their accompanying sharp shock of having to get up and go to work. Probably better than Saturdays. Saturday's arrive with a certain urgency. Things to do, shopping to get, football matches to attend. The general hub-bub of life. As for the remaining mornings. Well only Friday really comes close - the last working day, for many at least, and the signal that the weekend is very nearly here. But not as good as Sundays.

Yup, Sundays are unique in many ways. They are the only day they it is acceptable to spend the whole day in pyjamas. Well almost acceptable anyway. The only day where 'taking it easy' is expected and not frowned upon. The only day where lazing around in the garden is celebrated and certainly the only day when jazz can be tolerated! Somehow it just seems to work.

Try playing this album on a weekday morning and I guarantee you'll be late for work. Being chilled out on a Monday morning might sound like a good idea but in practice it'll land you in bother with your boss. Put this in your MP3 player whilst out running and you are more likely to come to a complete standstill than break any PBs. Nope, jazz is definitely best suited to a Sunday morning.

It'll help nurse that slight hangover, erase memories of dancing on a table in a pub the night before and put you in the right frame of mind for lounging around. Powerful stuff. Better than Much better than Paracetamol.

And this is the quintessential jazz album. Laid back. Utterly cool. And a stunning performance from Miles Davis. Even if, like me, you are not familiar with jazz,l you will already know the pieces on here. They've been everywhere; adverts, background music to TV trailers, radio. You name it. It's been there.

So relax, put on some Miles Davis, watch the world rush around you and enjoy your Sunday. Nice!
